Henri Koskinen | Ammonite Fossil

Name: Henri Koskinen
Picture title: Ammonite Fossil
Category: Intimate Landscape
Occupation: Biologist

Henri says:
‘Ammonites became extinct 66 million years ago and this example has been sliced and polished for viewing in section. The internal chambers and spiral structures were the starting point for exploring the visual possibilities of the fossil.

The original image is mostly brown but I turned it into a colour negative as I liked the shades of violet it revealed. I also played with different methods of sharpening the image. Fairly strong sharpening of the edges created a graphical texture to the image, which I liked.’

Technical information:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro

Post processing: Edited with Helicon Filter – colour negative of the original image and fairly strong sharpening to create a graphical texture for the image.
