Sarah says:
‘I'm not a big fan of hellebores because they hang their heads, facing the ground so you can't see the flowers! Whilst gardening one day I was clearing away the old growth from around the hellebores and I noticed how lovely the flowers were. I was inspired to find a new way to photograph them.

For this image I turned one of the flowers upwards and propped it against the other flowers. I spent some time exploring the flower from different angles and experimented taking various shots with my macro lens. My favourite was this abstract view of a single stamen captured peeping out from behind the petals. I felt it symbolised a shy flower being persuaded to peep out at the world and say hello. To finish, I jazzed up the image by boosting the natural colours of the hellebore as though the flower was donning a touch of lipstick for a night out!’
