Petar Sabol | Colourful Alien 2
Name: Petar Sabol
Picture title: Colourful Alien 2
‘I found this little fellow in a local meadow near Goričan, Croatia, just a few hundred metres from the village. It was a rather cold and calm morning, with the insects slow to wake up, making it ideal for some extreme macro photography. I carefully setup my tripod with focus stacking rails so as not to scare the damselfly. Once I was in position, I could see how beautiful his colours were, and how detailed the compound eyes were, and I couldn’t wait to get started. But it didn’t go as smoothly as I hoped. Even the lightest breeze meant I had to stop the sequence and start again. Then my model started scratching his head. In the end I managed to get five or six sets and succeeded in getting him perfectly sharp across the entire frame.’

Accessories: Tripod, electronic macro rail
Post processing: Basic RAW editing, white balance adjustment, sharpening, contrast and brightness. Later on, I used focus stacking software, Zerene Stacker, to get all the shots combined into one with a great depth-of-field.
