‘Our bogs are magical places that defy any distinction between land and water, ancient realms that are home to extraordinary plant and animal species.

The appearance of frogspawn in the bog pools truly is a wonder, as Mother Nature lets us know that the bog is waking from her cold winter slumber and that spring has truly arrived. While photographing in Clara bog, in the Irish midlands, I noticed that one 'cell' of frogspawn stood out. A reed lay beneath the spawn, and its green colour highlighted one of the spawn eggs. As I peered through the macro lens, it appeared that I was being watched by the large eye of Mother Nature herself.
