‘Borneo’s famous gliding frogs can be difficult to find in the rainforest unless you know where and when to look. Stagnant forest pools are their choice breeding ground, but these spots also attract the animals that come to prey on them. During a night visit to one such habitat, this Black-headed Cat Snake (Boiga nigriceps) was found suspended off the branch of a small tree with a Harlequin Gliding Frog (Rhacophorus pardalis) that it had just seized. With predator and prey almost the same color, it was difficult to make out the difference between their twisted bodies as the snake proceeded to swallow the frog alive. I had just enough time to set up some lights to capture a short series of images before the snake had finished its meal, whereupon it quickly slithered up into the tree canopy to digest its meal in privacy.’
