‘Once this dragonfly felt the warmth of the rising sun it wanted to take off, but its wing muscles hadn’t reached the right temperature yet. Usually dragonflies either stay still or fly away, so this in-between moment provided a unique opportunity. My greatest challenge was the fact that the sun was getting brighter, so to capture the movement of the wings with a long shutter speed was going to be tricky as I couldn’t underexpose as much as I would have liked. With trial and error, I managed to find a compromise and capture the wonderful movement of this insect preparing for lift-off.’
