‘Pond skaters are very common and can be found on ponds, lakes, ditches and slow-flowing rivers. Sliding tirelessly on the surface of the water, they often gather in the sun to store energy. Sometimes, when the water is clear and light beams pierce through the surrounding trees, shadows of the pond skaters are cast onto the river bed. The phenomenon is even more beautiful when there are many pond skaters gathered together. This picture was taken in the north-east of France, on a small river lined with trees.’
