Mark says:
‘The Liverwort (Hepatica nobilis) heralds spring. This apparently simple flower, upon closer inspection, shows its wonderfully subtle graduations of blue and lilac depending on the age and size of a particular flower head. Finding more than just a few isolated flowers (here in the Rheingau, Germany) is a wonderful opportunity to try and capture the essence of a single flower buried within a multitude of evening spring colour, which, through hints of form and structure, emphasise the accompanying flowers. Gone are the drab, grey days of January and February. As each day of spring unfolds, new colours and new flowers herald the return of nature's full glory. It is a privilege to see and a pleasure to photograph.’
